The Best Vegan Deodorants (That Actually Work!)

Spending time indulging in nature can give us the freedom to ditch the make up, the hair products, and all the unnecessary grooming supplies we typically use on a daily basis. However, sometimes a good vegan deodorant can make a sweaty hike and enclosed spaces (like a tent) a bit more enjoyable… for everyone.
Thankfully there are heaps of awesome vegan deodorants out there today that actually work! Natural deodorants have been given a bad reputation for being too weak or simply too fragrant! With so many people making the switch to healthier alternatives, several brands have stepped up to deliver high quality and environmentally friendly vegan deodorant.

What Makes Deodorant Vegan?

Many popular deodorant brands that you’ll find at your local drugs store are known for testing their products on live animals, and that’s just not cool. Some of these deodorants also contain ingredients such as Stearic Acid, which is derived from the stomachs of pigs, cows, or sheep. Beeswax is another common material used for texture and stabilization in natural deodorants.

What Are The Best Vegan Deodorant Brands?

Deodorant has become a huge topic within the wellness world over the past few years over its controversial ingredients. Many deodorant companies have tried to brand their products as natural by simply adding just one natural ingredient. Even the claim of natural, of course, does not necessarily make the product vegan or cruelty-free.
Below I’ve created a chart of quality deodorants that are all vegan and cruelty-free (the base standard for any vegan product.) Some have additional qualities like all organic, 100% natural, and biodegradable packaging. Depending on what characteristics you value most, you can choose the best product for yourself.

Does Vegan Deodorant Actually Work?

It does work! Vegan deodorants use ingredients like arrow root or baking soda to keep the underarms dry. Micro silver is used in many deodorants to prevent odor causing bacteria and essential oils are often used to give off a long-lasting fresh scent. While I haven’t personally tested each and every one of these brands, I have tried a few and I have never been disappointed.

Is Vegan Deodorant Good For you?

Skin tends to naturally absorb just about anything you apply to it, so its no surprise that plant-based ingredients will provide positive benefits to your overall health. Coconut oil is used in many vegan deodorants, which is a natural anti-inflammatory and moisturizer. If you’re more concerned about keeping odor away rather than staying dry, Primal Life deodorant is made with hemp oil, which allows your pores to sweat and purge bacteria and toxins naturally without the smell.

What is the Best Vegan Deodorant For Backpacking?

My personal choice would be Nuud’s vegan deodorant because it last up to 7 days without reapplication! So all you have to do is apply if before you hit the trail and you’re good to go. The formula is super concentrated and the tiny bottle is made from sugar cane. Plus its easy to pack if you want to bring it along. So cool.
